Judo Club Challenge

Teaching discipline with strength since 2007

welcome to judo club Challenge

Our club celebrated a 10-year anniversary in 2022. During this past decade, we’ve had hundreds of kids train on our mats. Our coaches’ focus not only teach children how to get stronger and win medals in competitions. We teach them how to set and reach goal, and gain the discipline to put in hard work and consistent effort to then achieve those lofty goals in sport and further in life.

We do not aim to produce just champions – we aim to produce leaders!

Athletes from Judo Club Challenge represent Canada on international level. Over the years our students have stood on the podiums of National Championships, Pan American Championships, World cups and have been selected to participate in the Cadet World Championships. However, as we mentioned before, these are not the results we are most proud of. We understand that sport is just a beginning, it is a stepping stone for young leaders to gain confidence in their abilities, learn to challenge themselves and practice achieving the goals they set for themselves. The results we are most proud of is when our students succeed in their chosen path in life. We are proud to have students that became IT specialists, investment analysts, lawyers and doctors. We are proud of the role that the club’s teachings and training had on the success of their dreams, and we intend to do the same for your children.

Vladimir Shestakov

Head coach for high performance programm

An accomplished athlete, Vladimir Shestakov is easily one of the most decorated and distinguished judokas today in Canada. Vladimir shares his knowledge and passion with young athletes who want to reach Olympic heights.

In 1988 Shestakov became one of the heroes of our sport, winning Olympic Silver Medal in Seoul 1988, where he fought all his matches on one leg because of a fresh hip injury. Among his other accomplishments is a Bronze medal at the World Championships in 1985 and a Gold medal at European team Championship in 1987. For a full list of his results you can check out his JudoInside profile. He is also one of the select few in Canada to reach a Seventh Dan.

A real judo enthusiast, Vladimir’s love for judo moved him to create a video series “Staroe Kimono” (“Old Judogi”), these videos describe the paths of the people who made history of judo on the mat, so the athletes of today would remember and be inspired by the heroes of yesterday.
